In Year 12 (16 year olds, Key Stage 5), students will follow a personalised curriculum according to their interests and ability allowing access to either higher education, apprenticeships or employment.
Students will have a choice of three pathways:
- Applied General Route
- Applied Academic Route
- Technical Baccalaureate Route
The ‘Applied General Route’ and ‘Applied Academic Route’ offer a combination of A levels and the Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science. Students can choose to do A levels alone, or combine them with the Diploma.
As part of the ‘Technical Baccalaureate Route’ students will continue to study core mathematics combined with either a First Award in Physical Science or a Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science/Engineering.
In terms of the specialist and technical curriculum, each student will be encouraged towards the Enhanced Project Qualification (EPQ). This extends the Key Stage 4 offer where employers will mentor and support students with guest classes, technical support and site visits and students will undertake further work experience and prepare to progress into higher education or sustainable employment.
