UTC Bolton’s technical specialisms are health sciences and engineering technologies. These have been chosen because there are significant skills shortages in these areas nationally and locally. Graduating students will be in demand by employers and universities.
The North West, including Bolton and the surrounding areas, has a cluster of employers in these sectors that require professional, technical and skilled workforce at all levels. These employers struggle to recruit suitably qualified people to their organisations. Health sciences and engineering technologies are also key strengths of the University of Bolton’s teaching and research.
The University of Bolton is the lead partner and university sponsor of the UTC Bolton. Key employer partners are: University of Bolton, Genix, Vernacare, the Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, Olympus (Medical Physics), Electromech, Movetech UK, Asons Solicitors, Warburtons.
Many other employers and organisations will help develop the proposal further. These include The Royal Air Force, Bolton School (the leading independent school in Bolton), Bolton College and Bolton Sixth Form College.
All of these organisations are involved because they strongly believe that students should be given alternative educational provision leading to real opportunities for progression towards higher education or sustainable employment.
A collaborative ‘employer group’ will be established for employer involvement and to foster and maintain excellent links with the business community.
