A team of year 12 chemistry students were selected to represent the school in the regional heat of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Schools’ Analyst Competition 2018;  Zamaan Khan, Iman Bakhit and Maream Merza.

The students were given a task to determine the iron content of Irn Bru, and were assessed on their team working skills as well as their analytical chemistry skills.  The students had a great time, and enjoyed the opportunity to work in the university undergraduate laboratories, observe a lecture on “A Quantum of Science” from Dr. Frank Mair  and have an opportunity to tour the School of Chemistry.  They also had the chance to find out a little about life at university from the postgraduate helpers supporting the day.
